Parent Coaching

Parent Coaching

Parent coaching and consultation is a specialty I offer based on two decades of providing direct therapeutic services along with psycho-educational programs to parents. I am also a parent of an adopted, special needs child, which has proven to provide me with the most invaluable insight and skills.  Our children are our greatest teachers and I seek to find the best way for you to be supported and equipped with skills as you navigate the many developmental curve balls your child may throw at you. Often children are not ready to access services and parent coaching can be a way you choose to start improving your current situation and find relief.

Parent coaching can be an on-going or an occasional consult. I am available by phone, in your home, in my office in Longmont, or in the community in Boulder, Lafayette, or Louisville in order to make the service most accessible. During our initial assessment, I will take a complete history of the presenting problem, your child, other relevant members of the family, and your parenting style. My services seek to support your basic foundation and value system as parents and a family. Many parent coaches attempt to reinvent the wheel or have a "one size fits all" approach. I have found the most success in advising parents based on the pulse of their household and their vision for where they would like to see their child and family improve.

As an animal and equine assisted therapist, my four-legged teachers have shown me that clarity in communication and boundaries, along with consistency and emotionally regulated responses, are the best form of love. You will be learning new skills and assigned homework in between sessions to improve emotional regulation, decrease burnout, increase parental satisfaction, and regain stability. I utilize a conglomeration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused approaches. I have a directive style and while you will be clear of my recommendations, you will also be supported in determining the best path that aligns with your natural abilities as a parent.
